Morocco is a land of culture, civilization and authenticity whose many charms attract more than just tourists. Each year production companies flock to the kingdom to make the most of its assets, including diverse landscapes and exceptional natural light that amplifies colors. Television series, movies and super-productions are regularly shot in Morocco.
The most emblematic location is undoubtedly the film studio complex in Ouarzazate, which is home to the country's three main studios: Atlas, Kanzaman and CLA Studios. They were used for "Babel" with Brad Pitt, "The Jewel of the Nile" with Michael Douglas, "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Martin Scorsese, "Tea in the Sahara" with John Malkovich, "Gladiator" and "Kingdom of Heaven" by Ridley Scott, and many other internationally known productions.
But the other cities of Morocco should not be given short shrift. The mysterious cistern and grandiose arches of El Jadida featured in Orson Welles’ interpretation of "Othello".
In Essaouira, the pier was used in "Game of Thrones", along with the red brick ramparts of Aït Benhaddou, which are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Scenes from "Gladiator" and "Prince of Persia" were also filmed there.
It seems that no matter where you go in Morocco, you are following in the footsteps of your favorite stars.
