What can be more refreshing than enjoying water, especially after participating in a lively festival of some of the cultural traditions of Fès?
The Festival of World Sacred Music has been an ever-growing international success since its creation in 1994. With the same musical passion, performers from different cultures participate in this annual event held in late May early June. The festival has expanded by including the Fès Encounters, where intellectuals, scientists and humanists meet, and free concerts are held in the town. Another festival, Jazz in Ryad, will enable you to discover the fine residences of the medina in an original way and in music. Fès also celebrates theatre with two festivals: one where Moroccan and international professionals meet and the other which enables university theatre groups from around the country to be in the limelight.
The cherry moussem is held annually in June in Sefrou which is just 33km south-east of Fès. The black and very sweet Sefrou cherry has been celebrated since 1919. It is known throughout Morocco. There are exhibitions, various competitions and a series of events culminating with the election of the Cherry Queen.
The Fès museums house real treasures. Spending some time in the Belghazi Museum is well worthwhile. Its ethnographic collection traces the history of Fès handiwork from the 15th century and illustrating it by jewellery, costumes and other everyday items. The Dar Batha Palace houses the Museum of Arts and Traditions. Among its treasures, you can admire its collection of astrolabes from the 11th to 18th centuries.
Though you can spoil your body in hammans and spas, Fès offers an additional attraction: the Moulay Yacoub hot springs. These are renowned for their curative properties but are also excellent for your relaxation. This luxurious spa town has professional teams to insure the success of your visit. A walk from Sefrou to the waterfalls of the Aggaï oued will help you to recover agreeably from the heat of the Fès summer. The hotels in the Imouzzer-du-Kandar mountain resort are, also, perfect for recovering from the heat of the imperial city.
The Festival of World Sacred Music together with the Moulay Yacoub hot springs will guarantee you a marvellous stay.
