Tangier is both on the geographic frontier of Morocco and on the cultural and sporting frontiers whether for a jazz festival or a round of golf.
The Tanjazz festival takes place annually from late May to early June. The foremost jazz performers of the moment are invited to this international event. The Mediterranean Nights Festival held during July is an occasion to enjoy an international musical programme. All year round, visitors can use the film archive situated on the Grand Socco inside the Rif cinema (previously the Rex built in 1948). Two cinemas, a library, a video library and a cutting room are available. Gallery Delacroix, is housed in the exhibition hall of the French Cultural Institute on Rue de la Liberté.
Tangier can be proud to possess a cricket ground, remains of a long past English heritage, where international teams play. The close by Tangier Royal Golf Club which was designed in 1914 by Cotton and Pennink is another sign of the British influence. The green of the 5th hole dominates the entire town. The young will enjoy a recently built aqua park. It is part of the region's tourist development plan. Sailing, with the creation of marinas for hosting regattas and for mooring yachts, is developing more and more. Other water and well known sports (tennis, horse-riding, cricket, archery...) can be practiced.
Between artistic exhibitions and sports tournaments, Tangier never sleeps!
