August will be a particularly festive month this year as a result of Ramadan, a unique and authentic atmosphere to discover during your stay in Morocco, from 11 August through to 10 September 2010.
The Ramadan month is an opportunity for visitors to share in authentic Moroccan living, a mixture of tradition and conviviality. Ramadan involves fasting between sunrise and sunset and in 2010 will take place between 11 August and 10 September. For Moroccans, it is a month of sharing and meditation, but also of festivities, with culinary preparations specific to this period.
During the day, life is somewhat calmer than usual, even if this does not prevent tourists from continuing to take advantage of everything Morocco has to offer: restaurants, hammams, shopping, museums and buildings charged with history, and also sporting activities. When nightfall comes, the whole of Morocco changes face and the nocturnal life compensates for the quietness of the day, shops stay open until late into the night.
Don’t miss the festive evenings and fast-breaking meals. It is an opportunity to taste the culinary specialties of Ramadan, such as Harira: a traditional soup based on mutton, lentils, chick peas, garlic and onions, or pastries, such as beghrirs or mlaouis, a kind of pancake with honey. An opportunity to experience something new, with unforgettable encounters!
