Tangier’s in full swing this September

Still feel like a holiday? Head for Tangier. Between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the city has a unique cultural charm. Explore its old town and hang out at its famous jazz festival at the end of September.

At the meeting point of Africa and Europe, on the edge of the Straits of Gibraltar, Tangier is a magical and romantic destination. You can watch the sun rise over the Mediterranean at Cape Malabata and set over the Atlantic at Cape Spartel.

Artists in the 19th and 20th centuries certainly fell for its charms. Matisse and Delacroix were won over by the old town, its medina and its cafés. And you too will love its famous Grand Café de Paris, its hotel El Minzah, the area around the Place du Petit Socco and the ancient Librairie des Colonnes bookshop. As it did back then, the city still likes to party, as the nightclubs all along its coast road demonstrate.

To enjoy nature, take a walk in the Parc de la Mendoubia or head off to play a few holes among the pines, firs and eucalyptus at the Tangier Royal Golf Club, designed in 1914 by Cotton and Pennink. There are also plenty of opportunities for water sports, either on the Mediterranean or at the water park which kids adore.

For music-lovers, from 22nd to 26th September, Tangier will be swinging to its jazz festival, Tanjazz. On the Place des Nations, in the big hotels or at the magnificent Palais des Institutions Italiennes, you can hear blues singers, large swing ensembles, and trios and quartets with gypsy influences, as well as soul and folk. What a great way to end the summer.
